In the ten coastal municipalities have today about 800 people participated in the second edition of the Great Schelpenteldag. In total, more than 50,000 shells counted. The Flemish Institute for the Sea (VLIZ) will be the exact results on Tuesday to disclose.
At every location along our coast was the organization of an information booth prepared. With the help of the experts tried participants of all ages to find out what shells they are exactly geraapt had. Children were given afterwards a schelpenamulet as a keepsake. In De Panne, Westende and Heist were also workshops to strandbloemen to learn.
“We are very content about the second Great Schelpenteldag”, responds Jan Seys of the VLIZ. “In all the posts was a good vibe and I noticed by all participants and staff a lot of enthusiasm.” Advance the organization hoped to get more than 100,000 shells, but that ambitious target was not met. “With radiant spring weather we had that have been achieved, but today there was barely people on the dike. All participants were very aware to the beach and shells to count.”
