The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) welcomed on Wednesday the award of Euro 2032 football to Italy which, thanks to the modernization of the stadiums, could ultimately allow the organization in the country of a Rugby World Cup.

“The president of the FIR expressed the satisfaction of the Italian rugby movement after the award of Euro 2032 to Italy,” she indicated at the end of her federal council.

“We hope that this continental tournament accelerates the process of modernizing the stadiums necessary to enable our country to compete for one of the future editions of the Rugby World Cup,” the text continues.

UEFA on Tuesday awarded the organization of Euro 2032 jointly to Italy and Turkey, the only candidate in the running. Of the twenty stadiums proposed, five per country must be selected by October 2026, five stadiums which, for the Italian part of the file, must be modernized or are in construction projects.

Italy, 11th in the world rankings, has participated in all the final stages of the Rugby World Cup, without ever reaching the quarter-finals. She finished in 3rd place in Group A of the 2023 World Cup, behind France and New Zealand.
