“Greta attracts the masses – but not in Sweden”
“There is klimatfeber among Europe’s young people. A Swedish 16-year-old calls to strike for a more sustainable world and attracts tens of thousands to demonstrate.”
“She has become something of a klimataktivismens years, Greta Thunberg. Her call to skolstrejka for the climate has been young people all over the world to engage. In Belgium, which she recently visited, has the most 30 000 young people demonstrated. But here in Sweden, the large-scale demonstrations conspicuous by its absence. Klimatprotesten seem to happen more in the quiet.”
“Magnus Wennerhag is an associate professor in sociology at Södertörn university and has conducted research on activism and demonstrationsbeteenden. He believes that one reason that the swedes do not conclude up in the mass demonstrations of the tradition of strong popular movements.”
“– a Lot of work with political impact in Sweden has been linked to the popular movements. The questions are driven to a greater extent within the framework of different organizations, which means that the protests we see here is not mass phenomenon as in many other countries, ” he says.”
“That the climate does not affect a specific group can also affect the size of the commitment.”
“– There is no clear team that can say that they represent ”
“the Consequences of the creeping closer”
“That much of the klimatengagemanget collected in established organizations is something that the Swedish society for nature conservation chairman, Johanna Sandahl, agree with. At the same time, interest in the climate have never been greater, according to her.”
” more and more feel that this issue is crucial for the future. The consequences of the warming is creeping ever closer. I also believe that many do something for the climate every day, by how you live, consume and travel. Klimatengagemanget is a ball rolling, the only question is if it rolls fast enough, ” says Johanna Sandahl.”
“What is required for English squares to be completed for the climate? Even if the demonstrations do not seem to be in the hearts of swedes dna think Magnus Wennerhag to a long-proven concept can get us to leave the couch.”
“– To organise a workshop for the movement’s issue is a way to gather people. The clearest example is the labor movement’s demonstrations in connection with the first of may. Might something similar work for the climate.”
“Greta Thunberg, born in 2003, has since the summer skolstrejkat outside the parliament house in Stockholm every Friday, with the promise to not stop until american policy is in line with the paris agreement of 2015.”
“Greta Thunberg’s actions have inspired lots of school – and high school students in other countries to also manifest for climate. At the same time, she has been invited to speak at, for example, the UN climate change conference in Poland in autumn, the World economic forum in Davos in January and, most recently, at a seminar on the future of Europe in Brussels.”
“Her strike has been spread far beyond Sweden’s borders. Except for Belgium and France, two countries that Thunberg visited recently, thousands of children and young people have been on strike in Australia, Germany and the Uk.”
“Greta Thunberg’s children to actor Svante Thunberg and singer Malena Ernman. Grandfather Olof Thunberg is also well-known to many as the narration in the films and fairy tales on the bear Bamse.”
