AC Milan smelled a good deal: the day after the remarkable reconversion of Olivier Giroud who replaced Mike Maignan at the end of the match against Genoa, the Lombard club put goalkeeper jerseys on sale on Sunday in the name of the French international, struck with his N.9. But on Monday, the flocking of the 2018 world champion was out of stock on the official store.

“On Saturday, Olivier Giroud made club history by playing in goal with courage for the last minutes of the match against Genoa,” explained the new leader of the Italian Championship in a press release.

“AC Milan has decided to celebrate his performance by including it on our website in the section reserved for goalkeepers and for a few days, it will be possible to buy the Giroud N.9 goalkeeper jersey,” continues the club.

On the page reserved for the current AC Milan team, Giroud now appears with a green goalkeeper jersey. He is one of the five goalkeepers in the squad alongside Mike Maignan, the goalkeeper of the France team, and his official understudy, Marco Sportiello.

On Saturday, Giroud, 37, had to put on the goalkeeper jersey and gloves in added time after the exclusion of Maignan, for a dangerous outing.

As the AC Milan coach had already made the five authorized substitutions, Giroud, top scorer in the history of the French team, improvised as goalkeeper and notably made a two-step save which preserved the victory for his team.

The Italian press praised his performance on Sunday, like the Gazzetta dello Sport which presented him as “the architect of AC Milan’s victory”, while the Corriere dello Sport was enthusiastic about “ the extraordinary Giroud who saves AC Milan and offers himself a future as a goalkeeper.
