at Least 25 people have died and at least 50 have been injured in a fire Wednesday at the main train station in the egyptian capital, Cairo.

It informs the state tv and eyewitnesses.

An eyewitness said to Reuters, that it was a train that drove into a barrier of cement at the railway station Ramses in the central part of Cairo.

I stood on the platform and saw the train running into the barrier with great speed, says øjenvidnet, Mina Ghaly, to Reuters.

All began to run, but many were slain, when the locomotive exploded. I saw at least nine burned corpses lie on the ground, says øjenvidnet.

Sikkerhedskilder says that there is no evidence that the accident occurred deliberately.

Ibrahim Hussein, who stood on the platform, says, that he heard nødskrig, as the train came into the station.

– I saw a man shouting from the locomotive, when it ran into on the platform. “There are no brakes. There are no brakes”, after which he hopped of the locomotive. I don’t know what happened to him, he says.

another eyewitness, Ahmed Abdeltawab, saying that the platform was filled with passengers, who were waiting for another train. They were surprised by the fire and ran, while their clothes were on fire. They fell a few metres away, he says.

Mohammed Said as head of the Cairo Jernbanehospital, says that the number of deaths is expected to rise.

the Newspaper Al-Ahram writes that it was the train’s fuel tank, which exploded and caused a fire.

Egypt’s minister of transport announced after the accident that he comes back.

Egypt’s railway system is marked by poor security and poor maintenance, and many egyptians have accused the successive governments for investing too little in the traffic and the security around it.

The deadliest train accident in Egypt occurred near Cairo in 2002, when a fire broke out in a crowded passenger train. Over 370 people perished.

Alone in 2017 there were 1793 since train accidents in Egypt.
