In Germany and Sweden provides one right now over a papegøjes death.

It is not just any parrot, it is dead. The parrot by the name of Douglas was a bit of a movie star, after it was in the movie ‘Pippi Longstocking in the south seas’ in the role of ‘Rosalinda’.

Douglas ended his days in Karlsruhe Zoo in Germany, and he was 51 years old. It writes the local media Badische Neueste Nachrichten on Sunday.

because of the high age, Douglas had some small ailments in the recent years. Among other things he had so few feathers left on the body, that he could no longer fly.

even Though he was sick, so he lived a good and quiet life, but the director of the Karlsruhe Zoo, Matthias Rein Schmidt, says that Douglas lost all of his powers on Saturday.

– yesterday lost Douglas more and more of his strength. I examined it together with our veterinarian. They could immediately tell how he was weaker and weaker, he says to the media.

The last two hours of his life, sat Douglas on the director’s arm.

– even Though he had an almost biblical age for an ara, touched me really terribly, and when he died, says Matthias Rein Schmidt.

In 2016, had Douglas to leave his home for over ten years in Sweden. The authorities had been past the Malmö reptile centre in People’s Park, where he lived in a cage at a little over three square meters.

It said they was for a little, even though the parrot spent all his time on a stick, as he could not fly.

Douglas was to have a cage of 30 square meters, and they could not offer him in Malmö. Therefore, they had to find a new home for him, if he should not be killed.

the Choice fell on the Karlsruhe Zoo, where the parrot then ended up living until his death.

Through his life Douglas had a huge fan base, that is frequently visited him. There was among other things held a big birthday party for him in 2017, when he was 50 years old.
