Luc Besson misses his return. The French director (Nikita, The Fifth Element) only attracted 140,000 spectators with DogMan, which was to mark his big return behind the camera, far behind The Creator, an American science fiction film which dominates the French box office of the week, according to figures from CBO Box-Office Wednesday October 4. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), The Creator, starring John David Washington, depicts a war between humans and artificial intelligence. This film dethrones The Nun 2, a horror film which still continues to thrill 160,000 spectators and takes second position, for its third week in theaters.
For his big return behind the camera after financial troubles and the judicial investigation into rape accusations finally dismissed by the Court of Cassation, Luc Besson is only third, with his DogMan, worn by Caleb Landry Jones. The film attracted 140,000 spectators. This is the poorest start for a Besson film in years: far from the 2 million admissions for Lucy the week of its launch in 2014, or the 1.8 million admissions for The Fifth Element (1997).
