“I wanted to create a Translation into images,” says Jessie Jeffrey Dunn Rovinelli. Her Film “So pretty” is a tribute to the 1991 only 31 years of age, who died authors, Communists and gay activists Ronald M. Schernikau and its novel “So beautiful!”. This came out in the’ 80s, first as a contribution to his Opus ‘ Magnum “legend” and appeared in 2012 for the first time separately.
While Schernikau of a group of gay West Berliner told in the ‘ 80s, plays Dunn Rovinellis Film in New York in the present. As a revenant of the characters of the novel, four young people: Franz (Thomas Love), Tonia (played by Dunn Rovinelli self), Paul (Edem Dela-Seshie and Erika (Rachika Samarth) act in “So Pretty”. Somewhere between Queens and Manhattan, they live together in an apartment, go to demonstrate – a Film that does not require a great narrative. As a programmatic key points are text excerpts Schernikaus, the read, the protagonists in a Park, sometimes in the bed, “this film tells the story of four young people trying to organize their love. your problem is that your love is already organized. your love is organized in exclusivity, in self-defense, and togetherness.“
“Femme as in fuck you”
Romantic relationships, the organization of time, space and bodies are at the centre of the “So pretty”. A queer Experiment? No, says Dunn Rovinelli during the interview. In their eyes, the term queer is no longer associated with the political optimism: “in the Meantime, the Label is more about differences in level.” As a queer Film you would like to know, “So pretty” is therefore not understood. Even if not normative, see loving the body: “There are definitely gay Sex,” says Dunn Rovinelli with a grin.
sex is displayed in “pretty” not just as fluid, and never overcome, but as an Ensemble of Gestures and movements. As a change in the relationship to See and be seen. “I want the views of the characters is the focus,” says Dunn Rovinelli. It is the many part, all of the Windows, doors and mirrors, that create this visibility. “I’m obsessed with the framework,” says the Director. “You are my agent to direct the focus on the body”. A visual language that rises, even if it creates sometimes arg-obvious metaphors. For example, as linen curtains of the window impose, after Erika was arrested at a Demonstration.
Because of the political struggles of Schernikaus template can be found in the Film, albeit in a broken Form. Schernikau wrote “We all want to be Communists”, Dunn Rovinelli political organization of skeptical. This is shown in the distance area can Look from Erika, the actress Rachika Samarth contributed a part of the dreamy electronic soundtrack. Instead of politics and resistance Dunn interested Rovinelli, such as marginalised supply, day-to-day, coffee for coffee entities in a hostile world. Of the many household scenes, the flush, salad washing, bed-making. It is a quiet Film. A, letters in which the Transparent not by their embassies bribe, but by their merciless beauty: “Femme as in fuck you” in curly pink.
go Dancing and Boobs show
“So pretty” is a utopia. However, that is not based on large political Gestures, but to friendship and intimacy. “A Demonstration, the Slogans don’t interest me, but how people hold hands, if you are running from the police,” Dunn Rovinelli. A new Biedermeier? “All I want is to celebrate, where I show off my Tits and dance to Techno,” she laughs.
below are the employment with Berlin and New York, according to Dunn Rovinelli the “main cities of non-traditional Sex”. You want to pay tribute: “I would like to approach these places carefully, without falling into clichés.” A start with “So pretty”.
