There was no match this Saturday in Lille. At the Pierre-Mauroy stadium, the English defeated the powerless Chileans (71-0). The XV de la Rose scored eleven tries including a quintuple from the future winger of Racing 92, Henry Arundell. With this success, Owen Farrell’s teammates have taken a (very) big step towards qualification.
The English started the match well but made two errors in front of the Chilean goal. Before finding the first flaw of the match in the 20th minute thanks to Arundell. The English winger even scored a double 10 minutes later, on his wing. Hooker Théo Dan had also scored in the meantime before prop Bevan Rodd scored a strong try (35th). On the siren, Marcus Smith gave himself a try on an individual feat. Repositioned at the back after the return of Owen Farrell at the opening, the Harlequins player played to follow before recovering the leather and scoring another try.
In the second half, the Chileans never existed. Hooker Théo Dan first scored his second try of the game behind a carried ball (46th). Henry Arundell scored his third personal try (49th) before scoring a fourth on the hour mark. Faced with the Chileans who were too powerless this Saturday in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, the rocket of the XV de la Rose was is offered too easily a fifth try (70th).
Despite a few attempts near the goal by Owen Farrell’s teammates, the Condores never managed to score. Worse still, they even conceded two last tries from Marcus Smith and Jack Willis two minutes from time. The English have taken a big step towards qualification while the Chileans will have one last match to save their honor against Argentina.
