The Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati-VR46) will start in pole position for the sprint and the Indian Grand Prix, 13th round out of 20 of the MotoGP season, after having signed the best qualifying time on Saturday, ahead of the Spaniard Jorge Martin (Ducati-Pramac) and the Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati).
Under stifling heat, the first three in the world championship standings fought a great battle and it was ultimately the driver of the VR46 team who came out on top by only 43 thousandths ahead of “Martinator”, the main competitor of Bagnaia in the race for the world title.
The reigning world champion, not very comfortable on the Indian track since the start of the weekend, however also managed to grab the front row by finishing third, 256 thousandths behind his compatriot.
The Italian Luca Marini (Ducati-VR46), who was the fastest on Friday, took fourth place.
The big surprise came from the Hondas, who have been in great difficulty since the start of the season and who were both in Q2 for the first time this season. The Spaniards Joan Mir and Marc Marquez will start on the second row, in fifth and sixth rows.
The two Frenchmen on the grid, Zarco and Quartararo, limited the damage during their last lap and will start just behind the two Japanese motorcycles during the sprint on Saturday and the Grand Prix on Sunday, two races which were shortened by the organizers by respectively one and three laps due to the overwhelming heat on the Buddh circuit, which the paddock is discovering this year.
