Cava D. O. spreads over 159 different small and larger areas in Spain, but the emphasis is produced in the Penedès in Catalonia. It is also here the clear largest manufacturers Codoníu and Freixenet is located. But it is precisely in disagreements about the geography and the quality of Cava has meant that a number of manufacturers founded the L’Associació d’Elaboradors in Viticultors Corpinnat (AVEC). Today, WITH nine members of the bl.a. Gramona, Recaredo, Llopart, Nadal, Sabaté in Coca, Torelló, Huguet-Can Freixes, Júlia Bernat and Mas Candí. The rules for Corpinnat is significantly more stringent and means that the grapes must come from certified organic vineyards, håndhøstes and from a restricted area within the appellation Penedès. Furthermore, at least 75% of the grapes must be from vineyards that are owned by the winery, and vinificeringen of the wine must take place in a private vineri. 90% of the grapes must be the most common indigenous grapes xarel-lo, parellada and macabeo. And the pinot noir, chardonnay and trapet shall not exceed 10% of the wine. And sparkling rosé wines may only be used garnacha, monastrell, sumoll and xarel-lo rosat. Furthermore, the wines mature for at least 18 months on the gærresterne before release for sale.

AVEC got approved the new Corpinnat-classification of the Catalan authorities, vinrådet in the Penedès and of the european UNION but not of the Cava D. O. the Idea was only to add Corpinnat to the Cava designation on the bottle. But since there could not be agreement on this, the manufacturers have now chosen to withdraw from the D. O. Cava. Waiting, therefore, now WITH a larger marketing effort to beat the mark Corpinnat fixed in the minds of consumers.
