The Lombardy derby will have produced a lone rider for Inter Milan, very easily victorious over their neighbor and rival AC Milan (5-1). The Interists made the difference thanks to a double from Mkhitaryan (5th and 69th) and goals from Marcus Thuram (38th), Calhanoglu (79th from the penalty spot) and Frattesi in stoppage time (90th 2nd). AC Milan only saved the honor by Rafael Leao, well served by Olivier Giroud (57th). With this victory, Inter continues its perfect run in Serie A with 12 points taken out of 12.
There was no need to be late at San Siro today. With the stands white-hot, we thought a real fight was coming. But Inter quickly extinguished the ambitions of the Rossoneri. In the 4th minute of play, Thuram started on his right side and won his duels, first against Théo Hernandez, then against Thiaw. He entered the area and crossed. The leather finally returned to the feet of Dimarco who struck, and his recovery was deflected by the astute Mkhitaryan. The Armenian also had the opportunity to score a double but he couldn’t find the target with his header (11th).
The Milanese regained control of the ball and tried to reassure themselves. They created a few opportunities, notably thanks to a very lively Théo Hernandez in the first half. But in the 38th minute, Marcus Thuram inherited a ball addressed by Dumfries. The French international hooked a Thiaw in great difficulty then followed up with a curling shot which ended up in the top corner (2-0). Simone Inzhagi’s men returned to the locker room calmly, not really worried.
We then thought we saw a tight match after the magnificent first Milan goal scored by Leao after returning from the locker room (2-1, 57th). A splendid goal, certainly, but which had no other interest than to save honor. In the 69th minute, Mkhitarian had the luxury of scoring a double in the derby after a great strike on a serve from his captain Lautaro Martinez. Calhanoglu, the former Milan player, also scored from the penalty spot following a foul by Théo Hernandez on Lautaro. And finally, the incoming Frattesi concluded the humiliation by beating Mike Maignan with a cross strike (5-1). The recent finalist of the Champions League was well above a sad Milan this evening, and takes sole lead of Serie A.
