Pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie underwent surgery on his left thigh on Thursday, the athlete announced on his Instagram account, who is not expected to return to sprinting for around six months. Aged 36, Lavillenie was operated on for a partial rupture of the hamstring tendon in his left thigh by Doctor Nicolas Lefèvre of the Sports Clinic in Paris.
“Operation gone well, the hamstring tendon is repaired. A new challenge begins today and I am motivated as always. Thank you for the support, I will not give up on my passion,” he posted on his account. On Wednesday, the Clermontois declared to the daily La Montagne that he would not be able to resume sprinting for six months.
Renaud Lavillenie was forced to withdraw from the World Athletics Championships in Budapest (August 19-27). The summer had been complicated for the Clermont athlete who had not done better than a jump of 5.61 meters this season in seven competitions and had not even crossed any bar at the last French championships in Albi.
