Armand Duplantis won the pole at the Diamond League meeting in Brussels, Belgium, with a successful jump of 6.10 m. A new success which could have been even more beautiful but for the fourth time, the Swede attacked in vain to 6.23 m, one centimeter higher than his last world record to date, established in February.
Before Brussels, “Mondo” stumbled on the same bar in Stockholm at the beginning of July, in the world final in Budapest at the end of August and in Zurich (Switzerland) a week ago.
Once again, the reigning Olympic champion and double world champion was nevertheless the only one to go higher than six meters. The American Sam Kendricks and the Filipino EJ Obiena, second and third, both topped out at 5.92 m (passed on the first attempt for the first, on the third for the second).
The 23-year-old Swede is now expected in the Diamond League final in mid-September in Eugene (Oregon, United States). Thibaut Collet, recent fifth in the world final with a personal best increased to 5.90m, stopped at 5.82m and ranked seventh. He then came up against 5.97m three times after choosing to skip at 5.92m.
