Russian president Vladimir Putin held a Stasi id card, as he the end of the 1980s worked and lived in the then-east German city of Dresden.

It reveals the German newspaper Bild.

the Card carries Putin’s own signature. It gave him a hitherto unknown power in the communist regime. Police officers and other officials had to add him, when he waved the card, which hid his true identity as issued from the superiority in Moscow.

Exactly why Putin was equipped with the Stasi-id, is uncertain. But when the future president could be posing as a member of the secret corps, which supervised the east germans smallest of movements gave it him, certainly opportunities that were closed to a smooth KGB agent, who had to operate more covertly.

Vladimir Putin bore the title of major in the KGB and was thus high in the hierarchy.

Putin spoke and speaks excellent German. So he has had it easy to cope in the east German society. As when he meets with ‘Mutti’ Merkel, then going on their conversations in German.

According to Bild lost Putin in 1990, its Stasi-id. It is unknown why.

It has previously been promoting, that Putin lived in a modest apartment in a block of flats in his years in Dresden from 1985 to 1989.

By the side of his secret activities, he spent time with his wife and two daughters. There was also time to visit his favorite bar ‘Of Thor’, where he enjoyed a bajer of the brand Radeberger. A beer that Merkel also has a habit of servers, when the two have completed more serious duties.
