Guaidó is the rising Star of Venezuelan politics: He has done it to the Opposition and to bring many Chavisten on his side. But his strategy is risky.

He almost surprised everyone: Juán Guaidó, since the beginning of January the Chairman of the national Assembly of Venezuela, who had been ousted two years ago by President Nicolás Maduro, and still more met.

Until recently, still a blank slate in Venezuelan politics, he is now, not three weeks later, the of many foreign governments recognised the transitional President of the South American country.

The members of the opposition demonstration on Wednesday of just 35, took advantage of-Year-old to proclaim in front of tens of thousands of supporters as the legitimate head of state – with reference to the Constitution, the Parliament chief is to trap him, because the Regime has no democratic legitimacy:

“Today, at 23. January 2019 in my function as President of the national Assembly, I swear to take over as President of Venezuela the jurisdiction and responsibility of the Executive power.”

The Venezuelans call it the López’ Delfin

Who is this Juan Guaidó? Industrial engineer, father of a daughter, a former Student representative and a member of the opposition party Voluntad Popular. The 2009 Leopoldo López based group that defines itself as center-left, was the beginning of a clear Position – first against Ex-President Hugo Chávez and after his death, against Chávez’s successor, Maduro.

López was arrested in 2014, and since 2017 under house arrest. Guaidó is considered to be his pupil, or, as he is in Venezuela is called, as López Dolphin. The leader, however, had Venezuela been a lot of.

Why Guaidó is now challenging the socialist Regime so much, like no one before him, explained the journalist Liza López: “Juan Guaidó has managed to a a between far-left and far-right fragmented Opposition. To opponent more and more, which have traditionally been behind Hugo Chávez and have been disappointed by his successor Maduro difficult to follow him in addition to classic civil government.”

The slums were long loyal to Chávez

But even if Guaidó is the face of the Opposition, it is kept up to date rather than the collective. It is a new quality of resistance against Maduro. The Opposition was characterised since the beginning of the socialist project, Chávez is very civil.

The huge poor area of Caracas and in the Rest of the country for a long time were loyal to Chávez. And also, Maduro could still count on some time to you. On the opposition demonstration on Wednesday, thousands of former Chavisten were present, such as the 45-year-old father, José León, from the poor neighborhood of Catia.

“I want a normal Venezuela, where the salary for the bare minimum is enough. This poverty and all the misery is unbearable. I want a free Venezuela”, asks Leon. “I was Chavist, and to ask each day for forgiveness, I was wrong. My children are gone, abroad, five of my nephews and nieces are scattered all over the world. And this must not be!”
