KIRKENES, norway (The Barents Observer): There have been rumors about the new weapons system in a few years. The first time the Barents Observer wrote about the new, unmanned undervannstorpedoene which has been described as a “dommedagsvåpen”, was in December 2016.
President Vladimir Putin confirmed the existence of the nuclear drones for the first time in march of last year. According to Putin were the drones able to move “in extremely deep water, inter-continental, with a speed many times larger than both the submarines, the latest models torpedoes, and all sorts of overflatefartøyer, including the fastest.”

Putin boasted also of the properties of the new undervannsvåpnene during his annual speech about the kingdom’s condition, where he told that they were “quiet, highly maneuverable and almost without weaknesses that can be exploited by the enemy.”

32 drones

It is believed that Poseidon (the name of the drones) will be placed on the two submarines that are expected to be inserted as part of the Nordflåten, and two that should join Stillehavsflåten. Each of the submarines will carry up to eight such drones, so that in total there will be 32 Poseidoner in kamptjeneste, said the source.

In this case it will be stationed 16 nuclear-powered drones equipped with nuclear warheads in the Barents region. Throughout Russia’s european fleet of nuclear submarines and havbaserte nuclear weapons located in Kolabukta and along the north coast of the Kola peninsula.
In Severodvinsk, the centre for all the construction of Russian nuclear submarines in Russia, are currently two specially designed submarines under construction. Alternatively, the will Poseidon-the drones being fired directly from the submarines.

Each Poseidon will be able to carry a warhead of up to two megatons. In Putin’s animasjonsvideo we see how a drone attack a group of enemy aircraft carriers. They can also be used to destroy havneinstallasjoner in the cities.
Drones are powered by a mini-atomreaktor, which gives them near unlimited radius and a speed of which should be at 200 km/h.
It has previously been written that Poseidon-the drones can dive and move down on the depth of more than a mile. For comparison, most subs only dive down to a maximum of 4-600 meters.
