the Voting was delayed on a number of sources, including due to technical problems with the new electronic voting system.

the choice went still ”relatively quiet”, according to the country’s influential catholic bishops ‘ conference Cenco. The church’s election observers, who claims to have been present at 78% of polling stations, is expected to leave a first more detailed report on Monday.

That the elections be postponed for two years, and that the incumbent president, Joseph Kabila, meanwhile, stayed in power despite the protests, many suspect the more extensive rigging in order to ensure that the governing alliance’s candidate, Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary, wins. The favourite in the polls ahead of the elections has been the until recently relatively unknown mp and businessman Martin Fayulu.

Kabila has ruled dr Congo since 2001, when he took over power after his father, who was murdered during the war.
