Houthalen-Helchteren “It was Kerims dream, we carry them out.” Almost two years after Kerim Akyil from Houthalen at the age of 23 killed in an attack in Istanbul, his family has a class to help build a Kenyan orphanage. A class that as the ultimate tribute also bears his name.
‘Akyil Class’: thus is called the brand new class in orphanage ‘Tsimba & Evy’s Children Home’, in the Kenyan Kwale. Fully financed by the family Akyil, who also helped with the construction. “Kerim helped people like from the need,” says brother Kenan. “He has me so often helped, but also unknown. We chatted in the past often about the poverty and unfairness in the world. And about development work in Africa, something he’s also been with my mom about had. Children who are hungry to suffer, while we are here food being thrown away… he could not stand it. We found those words in a letter from him.”
