Science & Planet is one of the most feared pathogens in the world, as lethal and mysterious as ebola: marburgvirus. Know much about the science there, only that the source is found in bats that are deep within the vast cave complexes in the African country of Uganda life. American researchers are now drawn in the hope to get to know more about the animals and the virus. And to prevent that it would spread.
The figures are not encouraging for people who marburgvirus up. It kills more than 90 percent of its victims, and it works very quickly. Severe bleeding from all body openings requirements often in less than a week’s time a life. A vaccine or a medicine is not there.

The virus itself is not new. It was discovered in 1967, after a shipload of infected green meerkats – a kind of monkey – from Uganda arrived in laboratories in Frankfurt and Marburg and Belgrade in the former Yugoslavia. Within the week were 7 workers dead. the
Since then, dived the disease several times and it took hundreds of lives, mainly in the vicinity of caves and mines full of bats in Uganda. Last fall, when a family of four got infected to the border with Kenya. Only one family member survived. the
How great the danger is that the disease spreads, was a dozen years ago. Then, we had two tourists infected, each of which separately is the bat caves visited in the Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda. But one of them could tell the tale. (read on below)
