Edegem A packed Our-Lady-of-Lourdesbasiliek has this morning said goodbye to the twenty-year-old Sanda Slide. The student died a week ago in the hospital after a runaway studentendoop in Vorselaar. “Sanda and his friends are an example for our society.”

Family, friends, fellow students, voetbalmakkers, old classmates and many other friends from Edegem and the rest of the country came this morning together in the basilica of Edegem to say goodbye to Sanda Slide (20), who last Friday died at the university hospital in Edegem.

“Sanda was a source of energy for his daddy,” says Sanda’s stiefmama, that the word took on for the family. “He was not only a son but also a best friend. He was always there for us, for his brother, for his step-brother and stiefzus. Our family also wants to true friends of Sanda to thank, who is here today, so numerous are present and have committed themselves to this goodbye to organize. Clearly there are still young people who do not kick on barbaric practices. There is still a future for the youth. The courtesy and kindness of Sanda and his friends is where our society today is crying. That is today even more once proven.”

Sanda’s friends wanted to also like to say something at the farewell. “If there still was a place for a striker in the team, asked Sanda for this summer”, reliving his friends from the football club I Serve. “Not really, but thanks to its impressive speed and even bigger smile, we could just not refuse. In no time he had inducted in the team. The chilly Sunday mornings were always much more pleasant when Sanda onto the field and ran. Last weekend we held a erewedstrijd for Sanda. The subdued silence for the match, the absolute bet during the match and the many anecdotes after the match to prove how happy we have him in our team had. The number nine is for always for you, Sanda. We play champion this year. Without you on the field, but with you in our hearts.”
