The alleged perpetrator of Strasbourg was conducted in France in a threat file, but on the German side of the border, this was to the authorities, apparently, is not known. This raises questions for a better cooperation.
After the attack in Strasbourg, politicians are calling for a more intensive European cooperation in the anti-terror fight. “I would hope that we have a common European anti-terror file,” said the CDU-interior politicians Armin Schuster in the ARD morning magazine. National Sovereignties are not likely to be advanced in ensuring internal security in Europe.
Schuster refers to the different classification of the alleged perpetrator. Cherif Chekatt was registered by the French authorities as potential suspects in the so-called fiche-s-file. Together with his brother, he was in France as radicalised and was not attributed to the Strasbourg Islamists milieu.
