Leverkusen has loaned their young Belgian international prospect Noah Mbamba to second division club Fortuna Düsseldorf for the upcoming season. The German champion announced this news on Wednesday, specifying that there is no option to buy.
In January 2023, Leverkusen had signed Mbamba, who was then nineteen years old, from Club Bruges. The defensive midfielder signed a contract until 2028, but had very few opportunities to play in the Bundesliga. “Noah has made a lot of progress with us over the past eighteen months,” said Simon Rolfes, director of Leverkusen. “We have great confidence in him and are convinced that he will play an important role in our team in the future. However, he currently has more chances to play in Düsseldorf, which is crucial for his continued development.”
“I want to gain playing time here and take a new step in my evolution,” confirmed Mbamba on his new club’s website. “Last season, I had a very good impression of this team. I am very happy to join Fortuna.”
Fortuna Düsseldorf finished third in the 2. Bundesliga last season and narrowly missed out on promotion. In the playoffs, they lost 5-6 on penalties to Bochum (3-3 on aggregate over two legs).
