Spanish hopeful Fermín Aldeguer, who races in Moto2, has signed up with the Ducati team, whose colors he will defend this season in the intermediate category before his promotion to MotoGP in 2025, the Italian team announced in a press release on Monday.

Aged 18, Aldeguer won five Moto2 races last year with the Speed Up team (Veneto), finishing in third place in the world championship. He is considered the overwhelming favorite to win the intermediate category title this season aboard a Ducati, before making his debut in the premier MotoGP category next year.

The native of Murcia was coveted by a few teams in the paddock, but preferred to respond to the sirens of Ducati, the reigning double world champion, Francisco Bagnaia. “We have followed his progress over the last few years, last season he showed incredible speed. He is a very young man with fantastic potential and predispositions to progress,” greeted Ducati general manager Gigi Dall’Igna, quoted in the press release.

In addition to its factory team, Ducati is also associated with three satellite teams this season in MotoGP (Ducati-Gresini, Ducati-VR46 and Ducati-Pramac). The press release does not specify which handlebars will be offered to Aldeguer next year.
