The 59-year-old technician’s contract expired in June 2025, but Sevillian president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco said the two parties had agreed to leave at the end of the season. “I want to thank him. The club was in a very difficult situation and he was able to change that, with a lot of work,” said the president of Sevilla FC at a press conference, without providing any indication of the name of his successor.

In reaction to these comments, the full-back expressed his wish to stay with the Andalusian club, specifying that he intended to play until December. He stressed that his salary until that date would be donated to charity.
