Twitter’s identity change is complete. American billionaire Elon Musk announced Friday on X that “all basic systems” of his social network, formerly called Twitter, are “now activated” on the domain name “X.com”. If the X logo, black and white, had appeared since the end of July once connected to the site, its address had remained “Twitter.com” (which was still functioning Friday morning). X.com was the name and website of the online bank founded by Elon Musk in 1999 and which later became the online payment service PayPal. Elon Musk also used this symbol for the aerospace company SpaceX, the holding company X Corp which acquired Twitter, the start-up xAI dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI), unveiled last mid-July, and even for the first name of one of his children, a boy baptized X Æ A-12.
Grok, the first generative AI model from its start-up xAI and which is intended to be a version whose responses can contain humorous traits, has been available since Thursday in Europe “to X Premium subscribers”, announced the social network THURSDAY. “Once the European elections are over (June 6-9, 2024, editor’s note), we will continue to deploy contextualized trends for all users,” he further clarified. Since the purchase of Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion, Elon Musk has regularly mentioned his nebulous project to transform it into a multi-faceted super-application, with financial services, like WeChat in China. Since the launch of the generative AI interface ChatGPT (OpenAI), this technology has been the subject of fierce competition between the giants of the sector, mainly Microsoft and Google, but also Meta (Facebook) and start-ups like Anthropic or Mistral AI.
