Beaten 2-0 at home without possible dispute by the penultimate, Metz, Sunday, during the 24th day of Ligue 1, Nantes “completely missed” their match, recognized coach Jocelyn Gourvennec, who admitted that this defeat “hurts. We must be lucid about the analysis, we have got through it. It’s too far from what I’ve seen so far, it’s too “catastrophic” to be true!”, lamented the coach after the meeting.
While they remained on two away victories against rivals in the race to maintain, Toulouse (2-1) and Lorient (1-0), interspersed by an honorable defeat against Paris SG (2-0), Nantes failed to distance itself from the red zone.
Dominated in possession and use of the ball by a team which had only taken one point over the last eleven days and which had not won since the end of November, the Canaries were disillusioned.
“Until now we had shown a more interesting face away from home and, even if there was no victory (at the end), more consistent at Beaujoire. There, we completely missed our subject. We achieved nothing and we became fragile,” summarized Gourvennec helplessly.
“When we see what we did on the pitch, it hurts. When it comes to taking the initiative, taking the game into our own hands, it’s more difficult. Although we changed devices three times in the second period (…), we did everything backwards!”, the technician insisted again.
While the schedule will get tougher with Marseille, Nice and Lyon in particular over the next four days, Nantes must bounce back quickly. “We need to remobilize, stay together and prepare well for all the battles that await us. It’s a disappointment. We can plead the cause of the accident but it cannot happen again and even less at this moment,” concluded “Joce”.
