Gabriel Attal insisted this Tuesday morning on his desire to “continue to reform” in order to “reduce our deficits”. In particular, unemployment insurance is in the sights, he confirmed. The Prime Minister wants us to “reopen the site” to have “a social model which encourages more activity”. “It is obviously a priority to reduce our deficits, to clean up our accounts for future generations (…) Yes, we will continue to reform,” declared the Prime Minister, questioned on RTL on the criticisms of Édouard Philippe in this regard. The former prime minister of Emmanuel Macron’s first five-year term regretted on Monday that France “does not reform much”, in an interview with L’Opinion where he is concerned about the state of public finances and calls for consideration of the debt as a “political obsession”. “I completely agree with him in the fact that it is obviously a priority to reduce our deficits,” replied Mr. Attal, on the sidelines of a visit which should last all day at the Agricultural Show.
To this end, the Prime Minister confirmed that he was in favor of “reopening the construction site” of unemployment insurance due to the economic slowdown which should increase expenditure and slow down revenue. The Prime Minister also believes that there is “an expectation among the French to have a social model that encourages the return to employment”. “The social partners are in negotiations until the end of March. So we will take stock in the coming weeks. I am in favor of being able to move forward on this issue,” he said.
In the JDD on Sunday, Gabriel Attal was more precise. “We went from 24 months to 18 months of compensation duration, we can further reduce it. We can also increase the degression of allocations, this will be part of the discussions,” he indicated.
