Marseille-Montpellier 4-1Marseille: Ndiaye (31e), Aubameyang (44e, 62e sp), Sacko (82e, CSC) Montpellier: Al Tamari (4e)
Jean-Louis Gasset confirms his good debut on the OM bench! Three days after his successful baptism of fire against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League (3-1), the fourth Marseille coach of the season saw his team dominate Montpellier at the end of the 23rd day of Ligue 1 (4-1). A victory, the first in the league in 2024, which allows the Marseille club to come back to within three points of the European places.
As against Shakhtar on Thursday evening, OM were able to turn around a very bad situation. Hérault’s opener from Al-Tamari, following a gross error by Gigot (0-1, 4th), and the post found by Nordin (12th) marked a completely failed start to the Olympian match. And worrying. But in a Vélodrome rebellious towards its management, the Phocaeans found the resources to turn everything around. Ndiaye, back in the starting lineup, launched the revolt, equalizing strongly after half an hour of play (1-1, 31st). Invigorated, the Marseillais continued the attacks on a suffering MHSC defense. Aubameyang finally gave his team the advantage before the break, helped by the work of the Mbemba-Sarr duo on the right (2-1, 44th).
In front at the break, after a final scare on a recovery from Sylla pushed back by the upright (45th 2), OM were able to display more control, during a second one-sided act. Like a very disappointing Savanier in the midfield, the MHSC completely disappeared from circulation after returning from the locker room. And ended up collapsing. Aubayemang calmly transformed a penalty obtained by Ndiaye (3-1, 62nd), while Sarr caused the unfortunate CSC of a Sacko who was overwhelmed throughout the match (4-1, 82nd). Winner with authority, OM remains stuck in ninth place but has made up part of its gap in the European places. A return to form and an accounting recovery to be confirmed next Saturday, on the Clermont lawn.
