Quentin Vlamynck is a sailor with a heart. Winner of the Transat Jacques Vabre with Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, the sailor agreed a few weeks ago to support the association Les Étoiles filantes which supports children suffering from a rare and incurable pediatric cancer. Its “Figaro 3” type boat, which will participate in the next edition of the Solitaire du Figaro, will wear the colors of this association founded by Sandie Tourondel, former journalist in the sports department at Le Figaro. The boat was christened on February 15 on the occasion of World Childhood Cancer Day in the company of snowboarder Chloé Trespeuch and former rugby player Pierre Rabadan.

“Supporting a cause to give meaning to my navigation and my daily life is what drives me in this project. By committing to this association today, I wish to convey these messages of determination, self-sacrifice, combativeness and resilience which correspond to the values defended by this association and which are expressed daily by these children suffering from Infiltrating Cerebral Glioma », explained the sailor whose boat was financed both by sponsors and patrons who have supported the association since its beginnings in 2019. After the inauguration, sailings were organized for the children currently followed by the Shooting Stars association. Ofelia, Joy and Gabin accompanied by their families were able to take a trip on the Garonne.

The Les Étoiles Filantes Association was born in 2019 following the discovery of Arthur’s illness at the age of 5, an Infiltrating Glioma of the Brain Stem (GITC). Each year, only 50 cases are diagnosed in France and this pediatric cancer mainly affects children between 5 and 15 years old. To date, there is no effective treatment and the outcome is generally fatal within 9 to 12 months of discovery of the tumor. The link to support this association.
