Canada loses one of its Olympic athletes. The 31-year-old former figure skater, Alexandra Paul, died last Tuesday in a road accident. According to the first elements, revealed by the police via CTV News, the victim’s car was hit by a truck while it was stationary.
At the time of the tragedy, the skater was accompanied by four people, including her ten-month-old child. They were slightly injured, but their lives are not in danger.
Alexandra Paul led her skating career in duo with her partner Mitchell Islam, who would become her husband. Together, the couple are three-time medalists at the Canadian National Championships. In 2014, they represented their country at the Sochi Winter Olympics, where they finished 18th.
“A shining star on and off the ice, Alexandra has left an indelible mark on the world of figure skating through her dedication, passion and remarkable talents,” the Canadian Skating Federation wrote on Instagram.
