The epic Barbenheimer duel, which began on July 19, exceeded all expectations. More than a month after their theatrical release, the two behemoths are still in the top spots at the box office in France. Week after week, the tortured scientist and the blonde doll gave the competition no chance. Gran Turismo, Yannick, Ninja Turtles… They all broke their teeth there, never exceeding the third step of the podium.

The latest to have tried it is the animated film The Jungle Bunch 2: Operation Around the World, released on August 16. Led by the tabby penguin Maurice, the animal band “Fortiches” achieved the third highest number of admissions of the week with 240,209 spectators.

For their fifth week in theaters, Barbie and Oppenheimer have respectively accumulated 450,250 and 331,457 admissions. They thus maintain a large lead and are gradually approaching the biggest hits of the year. With 4.9 million total viewers in France, Barbie recently overtook Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom (4.6 million admissions) and is no longer so far from the French box office king of 2023 : Super Mario Bros and its 7.2 million tickets sold. Oppenheimer remains a little behind with 3.6 million spectators attracted.

In the United States, however, the reign of the two films has come to an end. This week, they were overtaken by Blue Beetle, the new DC blockbuster telling the adventures of Jaime Reyes, a young man full of ambition disguised as a beetle hero. Note, however, that the superhero movie gets the second worst start in DC history and is likely to disappear much faster than the two stars of the summer.
