The American blockbuster has again been the victim of censorship. The Algerian Ministry of Culture has just banned the distribution of the film “Barbie” in cinemas, three weeks after its release. According to the online news site 24H Algérie, which cites “well-informed sources”, the film has been canceled from all theaters in the country for “attacking morality”. He is accused of “promoting homosexuality” and of not respecting the Muslim religion and the customs of the country.

“Algeria ended up being won over by the controversy over Barbie because of scenes intended for an adult audience” and allusions to homosexuality, explained the TSA news site, also ensuring that the film had been “discreetly withdrawn from cinemas”.

However, since its release, the film had met with great popular success since the cinemas of Algiers, Oran and Constantine regularly showed full houses.

The Algerian example is not an isolated case. Kuwait, for example, censored “Barbie” last week in order to “protect public morals”, reports the British media.
