Tops
Les Brestois made an exceptional comeback by coming back from a two-goal deficit. Led 2-0 without discussion after 40 minutes, the Ty-Zefs came back to score with a happy penalty (see below), but above all forced their destiny by sieging in front of the goal of Brice Samba, at fault on Lala’s second goal (56th) but which prevented Le Douarnon from scoring several times.
Romain Del Castillo took on an extra dimension last season with Brest, and this double made him the hero of the last 14th in Ligue 1. Dynamic, and Brestois the most dangerous with Le Douarnon, the former Lyonnais had the guts to hit two decisive penalties against a goalkeeper renowned for his ease in this exercise, Brice Samba.
Florian Sotoca definitely likes to play against Brest. The former Grenoble player distinguished himself last season with a hat-trick on the first day of Ligue 1 against the Finistériens. If he did not score a hat-trick this time, he however opened the scoring with an uncrossed header which rewarded the Lensoise domination in the first period (10th).
Flops
Watching the game again, Franck Haise will probably find it difficult to understand how his team was able to show two such different faces in the space of 90 minutes. Brilliant, dominating, they lost their intensity and their duels in the second half without the changes making any difference. The rest of the calendar, with a reception from Rennes then a trip to the Parc des Princes against the French champions, encourages the artesian club to quickly find colors so as not to experience an overly complicated start to the season.
Everything was going well for the RCL: two goals in advance, a big chance from Fulgini (42nd) and the stranglehold on the game. Then, shortly before the break, Gradit missed an intervention and committed a largely avoidable foul on Le Douarnon. Del Castillo has transformed this offering, the starting point for the Breton comeback.
Placed on the bench of substitutes, Adrien Thomasson came out of his hinges a quarter of an hour after coming into play. The former Strasbourg player, who arrived during the 2023 winter transfer window, did not hold back his gesture and crushed his ankle by Del Castillo (86th). Logical red card, and the Artesians finished at ten.
