Two young French people were briefly arrested Friday morning around 6:10 a.m. after climbing the spire of the Duomo of Milan, the majestic cathedral in the Lombard capital, in northern Italy, a local official said.

“This morning, local police officers in Milan saw two young people climbing the spire of the Duomo,” Marco Granelli wrote on his Facebook page. According to this security officer from the municipality of Milan, the police gave the alert before positioning themselves around the cathedral to receive the two climbers. “Once they got off they were arrested and identified: they are French,” he added.

According to the Italian media, they are two young people aged 18 and 20, from the Lyon region. They would be part of a group that climbs monuments all over Europe.

Already in 2013, an Italian climbed to the top of Milan Cathedral, which culminates at 108.5 meters in height. He had parachuted. Arrested on landing he was tried for “throwing dangerous objects” to be finally acquitted.
