Cycling Worlds: "A childhood dream", savors world champion Van der Poel

Mathieu van der Poel (NED, world champion): “It’s a kid’s dream to wear this rainbow jersey. I think it will be more special to wear it next year in the classics. It was one of the last goals on my list. It’s an incredible feeling, a little unreal too. I felt great. Now I understand better when we say that we have an extra speed at the end of a Grand Tour. I felt really strong today (Sunday). It was a crazy race, like in juniors, it sent from start to finish. I worked hard for this title, it comes in the middle of an already fantastic season for me. It’s just amazing.”
