The British specialized site Rugby Pass says this Saturday that the former three-quarter center of Racing 92 and the France team Virimi Vakatawa will soon play rugby again. Indeed, he would have been declared fit to play the Barbarians match against Samoa, on August 18 in Brive, as part of a preparation match for the World Cup organized in France (September 8- October 28).
As a reminder, the center of the XV of France had been forced to stop his career as a rugby player at the age of 30 for medical reasons, at the beginning of September 2022. “Racing 92 has just been informed of the decision of the medical commission of the LNR to prohibit Virimi Vakatawa from continuing his professional career as a rugby player in France”, had then indicated Racing 92, before we learned that it was a heart defect.
But this ban only concerns French rugby, the regulations being different abroad. Which explains why the Barbarians would have decided to grant Virimi Vakatawa the right to play again despite this heart condition. A choice which they will however have to justify to remove any doubts.
