French international defender Axel Disasi has signed a six-year contract with Chelsea, the London club announced on Friday. The transfer fee is 45 million euros, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.
After Benoît Badiashile, bought for 38 million euros last January by the Blues, Disasi is the second Monegasque central defender to sign with Chelsea this year. Despite a plethoric squad, the Londoners needed to strengthen in defense with the injury of Frenchman Wesley Fofana, recently operated on his right knee, and the departure to Saudi Arabia of Senegalese Kalidou Koulibaly.

Trained at Paris FC, Disasi was revealed in Reims between 2016 and 2020. Champion of Ligue 2 in 2018, he took on a whole new dimension at ASM with whom he was a finalist in the Coupe de France in 2021 before know his first summons to the French team at the end of 2022. He thus took part in the last World Cup taking advantage of Presnel Kimpembe’s package. He honored his first tenure there against Tunisia in the 1st round (1-0 defeat) and came into play in the final lost against Argentina (3-3 ap, 4-2 t.a.b).
