United States international Timothy Weah scored his first goal for Juventus Turin, who beat Real Madrid 3-1 in a pre-season friendly in Florida on Wednesday. Weah, who joined Juve from Lille last month, scored from close range after receiving an assist from American team-mate Weston McKennie to give the Serie A side a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes, in a sold-out game in front of 63,503 spectators in Orlando.

McKennie, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Premier League club Leeds where he struggled to establish himself, also helped his side open the scoring after just 48 seconds. His shot from the base of the post was picked up victoriously by Moise Kean.

Real Madrid, who again started rookie Jude Bellingham, were slow to get into the game but ended up reducing the score seven minutes before half-time through Brazilian international Vinicius Jr. on a superb through pass from Toni Kroos.

Real tried to equalize in a scrappy second half, before Dusan Vlahovic sealed the win for Juventus in stoppage time.

Wednesday’s game was Real’s last pre-season meeting before their La Liga campaign kicks off against Athletic Bilbao on August 12. Juventus, meanwhile, will return to Italy to prepare for their Serie A opener against Udinese on August 20.
