Montpellier striker Stephy Mavididi has been transferred to Leicester, in the English second division, a year before the end of his contract, the Hérault club announced on Monday.
Eager to return to his land, Mavididi (25), originally from Derby and trained at Arsenal, left Montpellier after three mixed seasons, successful until January 2022, disappointing thereafter.
The Englishman, who arrived in Hérault in 2020 after a season in Dijon (L1), played 91 Ligue 1 matches (25 goals) under the authority of Michel Der Zakarian and Olivier Dall’Oglio.
This modern striker, also passed by Juventus Turin (2018-19), will play next season in Leicester, relegated to the Championship (second division) seven years after his title of champion of England.
Following this transfer, estimated at 7.5 million euros, Montpellier can accelerate its recruitment and track a new striker.
In addition, the Hérault club is in negotiations with several English clubs to study the transfer of its young center-forward Elye Wahi (20 years old), author of 19 goals last year.
For now, the MHSC has signed two free players: the Swiss international defender Bécir Omeragic and the Jordanian striker Mousa Al Tamari, as well as a young Bosnian goalkeeper, Belmin Dizdarevic.
Montpellier, long worried about its maintenance, finished last season in 12th place.
