The French men’s water polo team finished the World Championships in sixth place on Saturday in Fukuoka (Japan) and thus won the best result in its history at the Worlds.
The Blues lost against Italy, crowned in 2019 and reigning vice-world champion, in the match for fifth place 16 to 9 (1-2/3-2/7-3/5-2). In contact with the Italians during the first two quarters, the French were left behind in the second half.
Before these Japanese Worlds, the best result of a French team had been a round of 16 in 1986.
