Frenchwoman Pauline Mahieu qualified for the 100m backstroke final on Sunday at the Worlds in Fukuoka (Japan), beating Laure Manaudou’s French record.

With an impressive time of 59 sec 30/100, the 24-year-old swimmer erased from the shelves the record of the legend of French swimming, which had held since March 2008. Mahieu thus signs the fifth time in the semi-finals and will try to win a first planetary medal on Tuesday.
