Football before cycling. Before getting into cycling, Jonas Vingegaard started out playing football and then started competing on two wheels at the age of eleven.
Fish factory. The Dane, who has not yet signed a professional contract, earns his living by working in a fish factory on the port of Hanstholm from six in the morning until noon. A job that will last two years. If he worked in a fishmonger’s it is undoubtedly partly because his father Claus who worked in the fishing sector, as a builder of salmon farms.
Phone. After his victory in the Tour de France 2022, overwhelmed by requests, Jonas Vingegaard changed his phone number, which allowed him to regain some serenity.
Telephone (bis). We often see him on the phone as soon as he has crossed the finish line. It’s because he always makes time to call his wife to share his many victories.
A famous mother-in-law. Rosa Kildahl, her mother-in-law, is a Danish television celebrity who participated in the television show “Great Danish Bake Off” (a baking show, editor’s note).
Childhood tour. As a teenager, Jonas Vingegaard took advantage of his parents’ motorhome vacations on several occasions (between 2011 and 2015 in Bourg d’Oisans) to see the Tour de France pass. After the parade of the caravan and the runners, he launched his dreams to attack the passes, Denmark not offering the reliefs of his future flights.
The math bump. Before he started cycling, math was his favorite subject in school.
A triumphant return to Denmark. After winning the 2022 Tour de France, Jonas Vingegaard returned to his country by private jet, escorted by two Air Force fighter jets. 70,000 people gathered in Copenhagen to celebrate his victory in the Great Loop and 20,000 were present in his hometown, Hillerslev, a few days later to celebrate the hero.
Doppleganger. Jonas Vingegaard is sometimes compared to Macaulay Culkin, the actor of Mom, I missed the plane!
Prince. Vingegaard is so popular in his home country that his country’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister attended the last stage of the race in 2022. And Prince Frederik called it, the line of the 20th stage at the Markstein, barely crossed. “He was very happy,” reported the yellow jersey.
