Cameroonian Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, 27, has signed with Manchester United for five seasons, until June 2028, with an option for an additional year, the English club announced on Thursday.
The amount of the transfer has not been communicated but could amount to 47 million pounds (57 million euros) according to the British media.
“Joining Manchester United is an incredible honor and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way (…) It is the start of a new adventure for me, with new teammates and new ambitions for which I will fight,” the goalkeeper said in a statement released by the club.
The Cameroonian will succeed in the cages of the Red Devils to the Spaniard David De Gea, who announced his departure at the beginning of the month after twelve years in the Mancunian club.
Onana will find at Manchester United his former coach at Ajax Amsterdam Erik Ten Hag, with whom he had played five seasons. Last season, the Cameroonian goalkeeper reached the Champions League final and won the Italian Cup with Inter.
Dismissed by Cameroonian coach Rigobert Song during the last World Cup for disciplinary reasons, Onana ended his international career after 34 caps with the Indomitable Lions.
