After having donned the cap of pop icon, director, global spokesperson for feminism, Taylor Swift now becomes…mayor! As an honor of course.
On the occasion of her Eras tour, the singer will perform in the city of Santa Clara in the United States on July 28 and 29. The municipal council of this Californian city has therefore decided to appoint her honorary mayor for the time of her arrival. This town will also temporarily change its name to “Swiftie Clara”.
Taylor Swift has already played four times in the city of 130,000 since 2015. These two new shows at Levi’s Stadium are an opportunity “to celebrate the local and regional positive impact of the music of Taylor Swift and her extraordinary fanbase” for Mayor Lisa Gillmor.
These two concerts and this resounding publicity stunt are already having a positive impact on the local economy of Santa Clara. For the weekend of the festivities, most hotels in the city are full. They have been stormed for months by the “Swifies”, the singer’s fan community, as Eduardo Quinto, manager of the Sterling Inn, explained to NBC Bay Area. The manager of the Birks restaurant, located near the stadium, also announced to the local newspaper that he wanted to surf on the movement by offering a “special Taylor Swift menu”.
As for all the other dates of this tour, the star will perform nearly 3:30 a.m. playing 44 songs retracing his 15-year career. Enough to fill the 168,000 Californian fans who, during these two evenings, will make the trip.
