The flamboyant American Sha’Carri Richardson beat Jamaican Shericka Jackson in the 100m in the duel between the two fastest sprinters of the season at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzow (Poland) on Sunday.
One month before the 2023 Worlds in Budapest (August 19-27), Richardson (23) won in 10 sec 76 in the sweltering Polish, two hundredths ahead of Jackson (10.78). Beaten on Sunday, Jackson nevertheless retains the best world performance of the year, in 10 sec 65, precisely ahead of Richardson (10.71).
The two sprinters are qualified in both the 100m and 200m, a distance of which the Jamaican is the reigning world champion, for the big meeting in Budapest, one year before the 2024 Olympics. Richardson will experience his first international competition in the Hungarian capital, after missing the 2021 Olympics, suspended for a positive cannabis test, and the 2022 Worlds, unqualified.
