The Qatari Mutaz Essa Barshim, Olympic champion and three-time reigning world champion in the high jump, signed the best performance in the world of the season, rising to 2.36 m at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzow (Poland). Sunday.
Barshim, who is rare this season, had not done better so far than 2.24m, when he placed third in Doha in early May, his last competition before the Polish competition.
The 32-year-old Qatari won ahead of the one with whom he shared Olympic gold in 2021 in Tokyo, the Italian Gianmarco Tamberi, and the German Tobias Potye, who both stopped at 2.34m. It was the American JuVaughn Harrison, with 2.33m, who held the best performance in the world so far this season.
