Former Arsenal striker and Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu has been named club president of Enyimba, the reigning champions and historic stronghold of national football, Abia Region Governor Alex Otti announced on Wednesday.
Kanu succeeds Felix Anyansi-Agwu, at the helm for 24 years, under whose reign the club, owned by the regional government of Abia (south), won a number of trophies, including two African Champions Leagues (2003, 2004 ). Finidi George, a former Ajax and Betis player and Kanu’s Super Eagles team-mate, is the current coach of Enyimba, who won a record ninth Nigerian league title in June.
