The sports infrastructure for CAN-2024, which will take place from January 13 to February 11 in Côte d’Ivoire, will be ready in August, an official from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Ivorian Minister of Sports announced on Tuesday in Abidjan.
“Mid-August or the end of August, CAF will receive all the infrastructure, since, after the draw on October 12, the qualified teams will visit the stadiums. We are in our schedule,” said Sanson Adamo, representative of the Secretary General of the Confederation during a press conference at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Abidjan.
Alongside him, the Ivorian Minister of Sports, Paulin Danho, declared: “Ivory Coast has been waiting for this moment for 40 years and I confirm the availability of the infrastructure that the country will make available to CAF” in August. .
In addition to the six competition stadiums in five cities (Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, Korhogo and San Pedro), there are also plans for 24 training pitches to CAF standards, i.e. four pitches per stadium.
Before the CAN, the confederal body will organize the Women’s Champions League in Côte d’Ivoire to “test the facilities” in order to “organize the best CAN” possible, indicated Sanson Adamo, adding: “And we will not have apologies because African football has reached a certain level.
Regarding accommodation, Paulin Danho said that in addition to “high-end hotels, we will have 32 CAN cities built to isolate the athletes” where “the teams will be secure”.
