The British cycling federation on Monday included Mark Cavendish, injured during the Tour de France, in its selection for the road events of the world championships in Glasgow (August 3-13).
The presence at the Worlds of the “Cav”, 38 years old and world champion in 2011, seems optimistic, the British rider having fractured his right collarbone on Saturday during the 8th stage of the Tour, which should be the last of his career .
Also in the men’s selection are Geraint Thomas, winner of the 2018 Tour de France, British champion Fred Wright and Tom Pidcock.
In the women’s competition, British Cycling has retained the 2015 world champion and 2012 Olympic vice-champion Lizzie Deignan, as well as the double British champion (2021, 2023) Pfeiffer Georgi.
The World Cycling Championships will take place in Glasgow and the rest of Scotland from August 3-13. The men’s road race will take place on August 6, on a 271.1 km course between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
